West Ham United complete Club record Felipe Anderson transfer

West Ham United are delighted to confirm the Club record signing of Lazio attacking midfielder Felipe Anderson.

Anderson joins Manuel Pellegrini’s side on a four-year contract, having completed five hugely-successful seasons in Italy with Lazio.

The Brazilian, who has been capped at senior level by his country, scored eight goals and assisted ten more in his 32 appearances for the Rome club last term.

Anderson’s undoubted creative ability was a key factor in the Club moving for the 25-year-old – the Hammers’ seventh signing of the summer so far after the arrivals of Ryan Fredericks, Lukasz Fabianski, Issa Diop, Jack Wilshere, Andriy Yarmolenko and Fabian Balbuena.

The man, himself, cannot wait to test himself in the Premier League.

"I feel really happy and fulfilled to join West Ham United," Anderson told whufc.com. "West Ham is a club with a lot of tradition, lots of great players have played here, like Bobby Moore, Carlos Tevez and Di Canio.

"They were great players and idols here, and I’m aiming big, who knows, maybe I could hit their heights and be a legend here too. I'm really happy to be here. It's a dream come true.

"I want to thank the owner, David Sullivan, because he made a big effort to bring me here. I know how difficult it was, so I have to thank him a lot, and I hope I can repay his faith in me on the pitch with goals and winning games."

Director of Football Mario Husillos is delighted to have welcomed the winger to London Stadium and believes Anderson's signing shows the Club's intent for the coming campaign.

"We are very happy and pleased to welcome Felipe to West Ham United," Husillos said.

“We believe that we have signed one of the most exciting talents in European football. Felipe has shown a fantastic level of performance at Lazio in recent seasons and we believe that he will now bring that quality to the Premier League. He is also a player very suited to the style of Manuel Pellegrini.

“For West Ham United this is a very big statement, a club record, so we must thank the owners for their support and work in making this transfer possible.

“It is a negotiation that has taken some time but it is a very good sign that Felipe was determined to become a West Ham player, and we feel very confident that he will become a big success at London Stadium.”

Joint-Chairman David Sullivan said: “Felipe was a main target of the manager so we are delighted we’ve been able to bring him to the Club.

“We’re very pleased with the business we’ve done so far and I hope the supporters are just as excited as we are about the squad we are building here at West Ham.

“The deal sees us significantly break our transfer record and we feel it’s a real statement of intent.”

Born in Santa Maria, Brazil, Anderson made his way in football with Sao Paolo side Santos, making his senior debut in October 2010, when he was just 17.

The following year he helped Santos win the Copa Libertadores – South America’s equivalent of the Champions League – before heading to Europe to link up with Lazio in the summer of 2013.

He wasted little time in making his mark in Italy, scoring eleven goals in the 2014/15 campaign and playing a major role as Lazio reached the final of that season’s Coppa Italia.

In total he scored 34 goals in 177 Lazio appearances, lifting the 2017 Supercoppa Italiana along the way, and last term led the league in terms of dribbles, with an average of 5.4 per game.

He has also enjoyed success on the international stage, winning an Olympic Gold Medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, and making his senior Selecao debut in a friendly against Mexico in 2015.

Everyone at West Ham United would like to welcome Felipe and his family to the Club and wish him every success in his career with the Hammers.

Potentially our best player, actually our worst.

Anyone who can't see the last bit has been watching wrestling, and not the football.

One of the most frustrating players i can remember watching. Cant remember seeing someone look so good on the ball, have so much time, ability and then it all end up in some blind alley. He just makes the wrong choice so often.

Thank goodness, Moyes has worked him out.
Hope he stays on the bench and is sold soon.

Re: Felipe Anderson - Signed
I get that he’s just coming back from an injury. More reason for Moyes to put him on the bench Monday night, and give someone who is fully fit and raring to go, like Bowen a start instead.

Re: Felipe Anderson - Signed
frustrating first half but was maybe rusty then started to get past his man then hauled off
i'd keep him in the team for his pace, rather than the wheelie bin, with bowen and antonio a lot of movement across the line

southampton play that way with long and ings more mobile than the ol big centre forward and little guy

Re: Felipe Anderson - Signed
I know it's not the first time its happened with him being "lazy" but he has just come back from a month or more injured, so he may well be a bit rusty and lacking match fitness still.

Think we absolutely need him to step up if we're going to stay up and break down some of the teams lower in the table who will probably be looking to play counter attacking football against us.

We need to see more of that though, dolph. Not flashes of that now and then. I said pre season on here, he’s the best player we have. But I thought he was fucking woeful in the first half on Monday. And that wasn’t a one off.

Re: Felipe Anderson - Signed
I don't actually think laziness is his problem. It's more that he seems to want to make everything seem effortless so he can look really cool and technically superior. Trouble is that at least half the time he loses the ball with some sloppy pass and looks like a right cunt, seems shocked that his genius somehow hasn't come off and wastes time deciding whether to try to win the ball back or not.

I'm loathe to agree with Brentford, but who would you say is more talented, skillful etc simon?

Looks like a lot of people on here should be watching wrestling, according to the oracle that is Rd.

Re: Felipe Anderson - Signed
Trying to imagine where he would play under a manager like Chris Wilder. He would not even put him on the bench.

On paper we should not be where we are in the league. We can blame the owners as much as we want but certain players need to start caring. Anderson is one of the main culprits. Was lanzini but Moyes has come to that realization with him now.

Wont be long until the same happens with Anderson.

Technically he is up there with the best players in the league but there is a reason he is with us and not even shining. If you cant see the reason why then I am not surprised you think he should be in the team.

As said below Snodgrass is better! Would pick him every time over Anderson in the predicament we are in. Same with Antonio and Bowen.

Anderson needs to take a good look at himself but I dont see his mentality ever changing.

Andy
I’m sorry that’s complete rubbish
If you watch the top two every single one of the their players plays every single minute of the match like it the 90th minute of the World Cup final, city and Liverpool work harder than any other team in the league in fact I’d say their payers work 10 times harder thanAnderson when they are 5-0 up.
He was a disgrace on Monday every other player worked their socks off whether they played well or not he strolled around in the first half s as and I’d guess he sprinted no more than two or three times. He’s a fucking cancer in the team as his laziness seems to spread through the the team when he plays.
I think I read that we’ve only out run the other team we’ve played twice which sums all our problems up and most of those issues start with him as we can’t press as a team because they’ve always got an put bell down his side so in the end the other players give up and stop pressing

Re: Felipe Anderson - Signed
Put him in Man City’s team and he’ll look excellent, put him in Hull City’s team and he’ll look shit. Similar to Haller.

Surround him with quality players that are on his wavelength, play to his strengths and he’ll be a great asset. Surround him with Snodgrass and Ajeti and he’ll look clueless.

Re: Felipe ANDERSON - Signed
he has fast feet, is very pacey with superb awareness,
if we play to his strengths he will also score goals as well as assist in them.

we need to play to his strengths and not our managers philosophy
